Ujjivan - Providing Financial Services to the Poor

The Parinaam Foundation provides microfinance plus services that aim to improve the wellbeing of Ujjivan customers and their families. The two organizations are strategic partners that are working together to holistically address poverty.

The founders of Ujjivan & Parinaam realized that unless a complete package of supporting initiatives was provided to disadvantaged women and their families, the hope that they would be able to manage their poverty and, some day, rise above it, was an unlikely dream. Parinaam Foundation was founded as an independent partner and registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 as a not-for-profit organization with tax exemptions and 80G certification.

Programs being offered and/or initiated include:

		A comprehensive healthcare management program covering health education, health camps & vaccination programs, primary care, medical & surgical care
		Vocational training through a partner organization
		Providing reimbursement of interest on Ujjivan’s Education Loans Eradicating poverty through Education
		A safe water program
		Connecting the poor with an organized labour outfit that will provide them with training, accident insurance and job opportunities
		Conversational English language classes
		Medical and Educational support for Ujjivan staff who frequently come from the same economic background as the Ujjivan customers
		Urban Ultra Poor Program which will target beneficiaries from among the poorest and support them to eventually access microfinance services

As Ujjivan actively supports placements from among the poor, a large part of their work force come from a similar economic background as their customers. Parinaam has initiated healthcare and education programs for staff members. Additionally, Parinaam, with the support of Ujjivan, is in the early stages of launching a program for the urban ultra poor – women and their families who are so below the poverty line that they cannot even access microfinance.

Programs must meet the Parinaam benchmark of "Quality & Customer Satisfaction" and the Ujjivan requirement of "Deliverability & Scalability". For the success of initiatives in the present recession, it is critical to maximize the benefits with minimal costs – which make partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations a very important aspect of their work. Parinaam’s Volunteer Program is considered as the foundation of their work.
