On Saturday, January 5th, 22 Harvard Business School (HBS) students conducted field visits to Ujjivan’s Kavalbysandra and Lingarajpuram branches to gain on the ground understanding of microfinance. During the field visit they witnessed loan repayments at a center meeting, directly interacted with customers, and had a Q & A session with the branch managers.
A panel discussion on microfinance featuring representatives from microfinance institutions (SKS, BSS and Ujjivan, along with Unitus, and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation) preceded the visit. More than 40 students attended and participated in the lively discussion. The students were in India for Harvard’s India Immersion Program, which includes visits to top businesses, senior government officials and major industry organizations.
