The month of June was a time of tremendous growth in Ujjivan’s South region. In the past month, we have opened 6 new branches in Tamil Nadu, bringing the total number of branches in the state to 19. The new branch offices include: CO RS Puram, Tiruvanna Malai, Ranipet, Arcot, Bhavani, and Gobi.

The customers in these new branch offices are a combination of salaried factory workers and self-employed women, whose occupations include tailors, vegetable vendors, flower sellers, agarbatti makers, housemaids and basket weavers. The majority of the loans taken in these new branches are Business Loans (80%) and Family Loans (20%). With the opening of these new branches, there have been minimal challenges and the office staff remains focused on the following areas: center discipline, selection of quality customers, avoidance of multiple borrowings and high levels of customer service.

Given our ongoing success in Tamil Nadu, plans are already underway for additional expansion: 9 more branches are scheduled to open in the next few months.
