To celebrate the success of the 2008-2009
financial year, plan for 2009-2010, and
spend quality time getting to know each
other, the South Distribution team and representatives
from all departments spent two days at Ramee
Guestline Resort in Attibele, located about
28 kilometers from Ujjivan’s Head
Office.
After settling in the resort’s spacious
rooms, approximately 100 Ujjivan employees
in attendance gathered in the conference
hall for a full day of speeches, activities
and games. The event began with inaugural
remarks by Managing Director and CEO Mr.
Samit Ghosh. He first congratulated the
staff for completing the 2008-2009 financial
year so successfully and emphasized the
importance of staff bonding, relaxation
and relationship building. Given that Ujjivan’s
branches are scattered across southern India,
he encouraged having a similar type meeting
every year and even suggested the coastal
city of Karwar for the next meeting!
Other members of the National Leadership
Team also attending the event were Carol
Furtado, Chief Operating Officer of the
South Region, Lalita Rao, Head of Audit,
Premkumar, Head of Administration and Chief
Technology Officer, Deepak Ayare. Recognition
and official letters were given to those
employees who had recently been promoted
to supervisory positions.
As there were many employees present from
all across the South region, a few ice breakers
were organized to help everyone get to know
each other. First, everyone found someone
else in the room with 15 specific traits
and got to know them in the process after
which groups played the human knot and musical
chairs. Participants really enjoyed these
activities and it helped them get to know
other people in the organization.
After lunch, Carol Furtado, Chief Operating
Officer of the South had a session to highlight
the tremendous performance in the completed
financial year and discuss the plan for
the coming year on a regional and national
level. This enabled all branch managers
and members of the Distribution Supervisory
Team to understand the overall plan and
focus for the southern region as well as
for Ujjivan as a whole. It was exciting
for the team to hear and see the multifold
growth of Ujjivan over the past three years
and the realistic and ambitious plans for
the coming year.Representatives from each
department participated by appreciating
the Distribution team, pledging their continued
support, and discussing the cooperation
needed to create more synergies in the future.
To wrap up the evening, a team building
exercise was organized to facilitate discussions
on various aspects of business management
that Distribution faces throughout the year.
All involved were active participants and
interested in others’ perspectives
– it was so engaging that it required
an hour more than planned. The evening closed
with high spirits and enthusiasm about the
business and working together.
The second day was a memorable one for all
participants as they all enjoyed with games
like volley ball, shuttle, tennis, carom,
snooker, cricket, laggori, hannu tarakari
to name a few. Large group games like tug
of war and a treasure hunt were organized
by the resort and were a lot of fun for
all involved. Out of all the games, the
most popular was water polo in the swimming
pool as everyone could cool off and enjoy
being in the water on a hot day.
After two very memorable and fun filled
days, the event came to an end with each
participant giving feedback to others they
