West region welcomes the New Year with launch of “Mission Mumbai”

In the West, celebrations were the flavour of the month in December. It was in the January of 2009, that Ujjivan started its operations in the West region, with branches in Pune. Today, Ujjivan West is a year old and has grown to 18 branches across Maharashtra with a customer base of over 20,000.In December, the team in the West decided to take stock of the year gone by – celebrate the achievements, learn from the mistakes and launch into the next phase of growth.

After gaining impetus in Pune and Nashik, Team West has decided to take up the challenge of serving the poor in India’s financial capital, Mumbai. It is indeed ironic that in a flourishing metropolis, which attracts people from different regions and cultures, the poor continue to be left out of the mainstream financial system. “Mission Mumbai” was formally launched at an event in Mumbai, on December 21st, by CEO Samit Ghosh

in the presence of Jolly Zachariah, COO Ujjivan-West and members of West team. The atmosphere was further enlivened by cultural programs from the Mumbai staff. Later in the day the Thane Branch in Mumbai was inaugurated by Samit Ghosh.

On 22nd December, Samit Ghosh inaugurated the Ujjivan West Regional Office, following which there was a multi faith dedication. The finale of the season of celebrations was the cultural evening, when the team came together and showcased their talent in music and dance. The event was organised to commemorate the achievement of 20,000 customers in the West region. The winners of Monsoon Marathon – race to be the Best Ujjivan Branch contest, were presented with awards on the occasion. The team felicitated COO Jolly Zachariah with the “Best Boss” award, as a token of their admiration and affection. This was a special award, as Team West had unanimously decided to give an award to Jolly Zachariah for his inspirational leadership and steadfast support to each and every member of the team.
