Ujjivan spreads its wings in Maharashtra: Opens 2 branches in Nashik

Nashik, the city of pilgrimages, saw the opening of two Ujjivan branches on 5th September, 2009. Located in the North-West of Mahrashtra, Nashik has an estimated population of 2 lakh and is Ujjivan’s first foray outside of Pune in the West region.

Nashik is home to many industries such as Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., National treasury printing press and Mahindra & Mahindra, making it the third most industrialized city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. Nashik exemplifies the many paradoxes of India. The city continues to be home to a large number of poor, who are struggling to make ends meet, even as it has become the Wine capital of India, catering to the needs of the affluent connoisseur.

“The need for organized financial services and support is evident. The desire to gain access to services that could help women become independent and grow their small businesses, fully utilizing their skills with the availability of capital at a reasonable cost, made for a compelling case that could potentially have a positive social impact, while being a sustainable business operation” said Jolly Zachariah, Chief Operating Officer – West at a celebration meeting with the first group of certified Ujjivan employees at Nashik.

Two Ujjivan branches at Nashik are located at Nashik Road and CIDCO areas, which will help Ujjivan reach out to the economically active poor.

The Nashik road branch was inaugurated by Mrs. Sudha Suresh, CFO. Mrs. Suresh articulated Ujjivan’s vision and mission to the branch staff and others present at the event. The CIDCO branch was inaugurated by CTO, Mr. Deepak Ayare. Mr. Ayare addressed the gathering on the cutting-edge technologies deployed by Ujjivan and the role of technology in delivering services efficiently to customers. The branch staff had a sense of pride in the mission they had committed to and are enthusiastically looking forward to the challenge of serving a large number of the poor, while maintaining high customer quality standards. They are confident that under the able guidance and leadership of the Ujjivan management, they would reach the goal of helping the city’s poor “Build a Better Life”.
