On 16th July’09, Ujjivan’s North region crossed the important milestone of 50,000 customers. Operations in the North commenced three years ago, in a region where the socio-cultural and other general environmental factors were not considered conducive for a microfinance business to thrive. Microfinance, in an urban environment like New Delhi had not been tried before. It has indeed been a long and winding road for the region, where around every new corner lie new opportunities and new challenges.
While many microfinance institutions focused on the rural poor in the North, Ujjivan has pioneered the movement to serve the economically active poor in the urban and semi-urban areas of New Delhi and nearby regions. After establishing a foothold and a focal point in New Delhi, the operations in the North have expanded to states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with 300+ dedicated employees serving customers across 30+ branches.
This milestone is a testament to the effective leadership of North COO Mr. Manoj Dwivedi and his team of Operations, Credit, HR, Finance, IT, Admin and Audit who have shown that if one works with dedication and sincerity, success follows automatically.
The achievement was celebrated at every branch in the region by cutting a cake to commemorate the occasion. The region now looks forward to achieving the milestone of serving 1 lakh customers within the next six months. |
