Jakkasandra and K.R. Puram Branches Host Eye Camps

Hundreds of Ujjivan’s customers and their family members from Bangalore’s Jakkasandra and Koramangala branches are seeing clearer after participating in eye camps organized by Parinaam Foundation. The day-long clinics featured free eye exams and referrals for low cost glasses and surgeries. In total 580 people attended the camps of which, 194 were prescribed eyeglasses, 26 required cataract surgeries and 49 were referred to Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology for further treatment.

The eye camps are part of Parinaam’s microfinance plus programs, which aim to improve the well being of Ujjivan customers and their families. The two organizations are strategic partners working together to holistically address poverty. In addition to health care, Parinaam focuses on education, practical vocational training & job enhancement, basic community services and capacity building initiatives to alleviate poverty.

Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology sponsors Parinaam’s monthly eye camps as part of a program to extend free and discounted services to the poor. It is one of Bangalore’s leading tertiary care ophthalmic centers.

Since the programs inception in December 2006, more than 3000 individuals have received examinations.
