Ujjivan's Individual Lending product is
currently being piloted in 2 branches in
Kolkata - Tollygunge and Bidhan Nagar. The
product features have been tailored to meet
the demands of self employed customers in
the East Region.
Ujjivan disbursed its first Individual Business
Loan in the East Region:
Rita Paul a customer of Bidhan Nagar Branch
in Kolkata has been running a Garment production
and sales unit along with her husband for
8 years. Prior to starting the business
her husband worked in a garment factory
in Kolkata and gained experience and knowledge
required to start his own business. Rita
manages the production unit which employs
10 laborers. Rita's husband markets and
sells the finished product to garment stores
and individual customers. On an average
their business makes a profit of Rs 8,000
every month.
Rita joined Ujjivan in January 2008 and
took a business loan of Rs 8,000 which she
used to buy a tailoring machine, 6 months
later she took a Top Up loan of Rs 5,500
which she used to buy inventory for their
production unit. She applied for an individual
business loan of Rs 25,000 for the purpose
of buying cloth and other raw materials
for the production unit. When asked about
her future business plans she said that
with the next Individual Business Loan she
gets from Ujjivan she will start a 2nd production
unit. |
