Happy Women’s Day

8th March 2011, marked the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Ujjivan celebrated the day with women staff and customers around the country. A special Women’s Day bookmark to mark the occasion was given to women staff across all levels of the organisation, in appreciation of the hard work put in by them.

Several activities were held in Ujjivan branches and offices around the country, highlighting the role of women in the organisation and in society, especially in the work that is done in microfinance.

The Head Office wore a festive look with all the women staff dressed in their finest purple, pink and red pastels. Lunch at the cafeteria was sight to behold with several women setting up food counters to sell their special home-made delicacies ranging from pani puri to fruit custard. Funds raised from the sales, went to educate a girl child. Over Rs.4500 was raised by the women. Other activities soon followed - games, video screenings and a special quiz on women.

Boxes of sweets sent to over 200 women staff at branches in the three southern states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were much appreciated.

Shilpa Jadav, Regional HR Manager (West), sent each of our 230 women colleagues in the region, a personalized letter along with the bookmark, recognizing the contribution to the world at large, and the specific impact women have at Ujjivan.

Eastern Region Administration Department organised a special evening of celebration, complete with fruit cakes, samosas and all.

Some of the branches conducted special events, for instance, in Gudalur, customers and their families participated in a day full of fun activities. Customers from Gobichettipalayam branch used their fine amounts for a social cause by providing mats, plates, and tumblers to school children.

From HR processes review to gender sensitization training, Ujjivan understands that improving gender diversity encompasses a broad ranging set of efforts. The Women’s Day celebrations are a wonderful illustration that Ujjivan truly celebrates its diversity.
