Carol Furtado, COO - Ujjivan South wins the Financial Women’s Association (FWA) of New York’s Leadership Award for the year 2009. The FWA sponsors the Women’s World Banking (WWB) Women in Leadership Award, which is presented annually, to recognize outstanding women leaders.
“We have selected two recipients for this year’s award, based on both professional merit as well as the confidence they have earned from peers and the leadership of their institutions. They were chosen based on their demonstrated professional commitment and success as well as their enthusiasm and commitment to helping women around them to realize their potential. Carol Furtado has demonstrated considerable leadership capacity during her association with Ujjivan, and we are proud to be able to support her,” said Elizabeth A. Lynch, Manager of Center for Microfinance Leadership Women’s World Bank (WWB). Adiyahuu Yanzan, Head of Credit Review Department of XacBank Mongolia was the other recipient of the award for the year 2009.
The award ceremony was held on January 12, 2010 in Bangalore, as part of the Women in Leadership Workshop. In her acceptance speech, Carol thanked the WWB for giving a platform where contribution made by women in their fields is recognized and assistance is given for further development of their leadership skills. She was happy for the recognition given to Ujjivan.
Carol has been with Ujjivan since inception and has been part of the core management team that has seen Ujjivan grow from strength to strength. Carol is proud not just of the scale that Ujjivan has grown to, but the fact that it has done it with controls to ensure quality. She believes that great achievements are possible through close co-ordination and confidence received from the team. |
