Jyoti Pawar and her husband sell Puja material at a local Hanuman temple in Pune. Jyoti is one of Ujjivan’s first customers in the West.

Joyti regularly faced rejections due to her physical disability. This left her depressed and dejected. But she did not lose heart and when she heard about

Ujjivan, she availed a Rs. 8000/- loan and invested it in her business. She now stocks multiple items in her shop. This has resulted in higher sales and better profits! She is proud of the fact that she has been able to meet her family obligations and along with her husband, has been able to manage a family of three with their income from this business.

Jyoti has learned the art of saving, and hopes to grow her savings, which she wants to ultimately use for her daughter’s marriage.

She looks forward to building on her relationship with Ujjivan and expanding her business with a Top  Up loan. She expects that higher volumes would enable her to procure items at wholesale rates, and increase her profits. Jyoti exemplifies the adage “Where there is a will, there is a way”.

Kusumbi
Pune (North)
Business Loan

Kusumbi is a dry-fish seller from Pune. She is the lone member to have a consistent income in her family of four. She also worked as a house-maid apart from selling dry fish, to supplement her income. Yet her income of around Rs. 70-80 per day was insufficient to maintain her family.

Kusumbi was confident that her dry-fish selling business had great potential to
grow. But she could not expand her business as she did not have access to much needed capital. On hearing about Ujjivan, she applied for a Rs. 8000/- loan. She used the loan amount to procure dry-fish in larger quantities and at lower rates.

She has been able to reap the rewards through better margins and larger volumes. She earns almost Rs. 200/- per day now and has quit her job a housemaid to focus on her business!

She has applied for a Top Up loan to augment her volumes and eventually aspires to be a wholesaler in the dry-fish business. She aims to provide her children with quality education, which would enable them to become successful in whatever they choose to do.

Kewal Gaikwad
Pune (East)
Business Loan

Kewal Gaikwad, a resident of Pune, was earning a living by selling brooms from door to door.

The cost of brooms shot up and as times became tough, she was left with little surplus from the business. The untimely death of her daughter added to her woes and she had another mouth to feed in her little grandson.

When she learnt of Ujjivan operating in her area, she looked at it as a god-send and availed a loan of Rs. 10,000/-. She borrowed an additional Rs. 2000/- from her neighbours and bought material for broom making. She also found new avenues to sell the brooms such as the local vegetable market. She now earns enough to take care of herself and her grandson and has also begun to keep aside a portion of her earnings as savings for her future.
