Ujjivan
is an open and transparent organization.
We are straightforward in our interactions
with customers, suppliers and business partners
by providing information that is required
and appropriate. At the same time, it is
essential for us to respect business confidentiality
and exercise discretion when sharing information.
We deal fairly with customers, service providers
and fellow employees at all times. We have
zero-tolerance for those who take unfair
advantage of anyone by way of concealment,
manipulation or unfair dealing practices.
We conduct business affairs honestly and
in full compliance with all relevant laws
and regulations. We encourage or instruct
all others to act in the same way.
We shall uphold the dignity of fellow employees
and respect each other’s views and
work and thus foster a relationship based
on mutual cooperation. To be a successful
team we have to be non-hierarchical and
not unhealthily competitive. We should not
be afraid to express our views professionally
and we should never refuse to seek help
from one another or extend help to a colleague.
For these purposes, we at Ujjivan willingly
accept constructive feedback for the collective
development of all members. Individuals
should work to achieve their highest potential
by being creative, proactive, enthusiastic
and firm in their belief that teamwork achieves
better results than that of an individual.
A professional employee is representative
of the organization’s commitment to
high quality service and sincerity in pursuing
our mission. As professionals, we are knowledgeable,
disciplined and meticulous executors. To
be knowledgeable is to be well informed,
to accept facts and to not lack the humility
to learn. Therefore, as professionals we
shall (i) Accept facts, (ii) Be ready to
soil our hands with any kind of work, (iii)
Maintain a professional distance with customers
and fellow coworkers, (iv) Observe the dress
code appropriate to the workplace, (v) Only
make commitments/promises that we can and
will keep, (vi) Accept mistakes as long
as we learn from them and (vii) Be un-afraid
to try new and creative ways to achieve
Ujjivan’s goals.
All customers and employees irrespective
of religion, caste, creed or political affiliation
are equal in the eyes of Ujjivan. We advocate
gender equality. Ujjivan respects all religions
but is affiliated to none. As a result,
Ujjivan as an organization is secular and
apolitical. It encourages diversity and
freedom of choice, thought, and expression
for its employees and customers.
To believe in our values and objectives
is one thing, but to actually apply them
to our lives in action is another thing
altogether. Our whole purpose of giving
the poor a ‘better life’ is
defeated if we only say that it is our primary
concern, but our conduct indicates that
it isn’t. Our talk would be a pretense
and our commitment would be false. Therefore,
it is essential that we live by Ujjivan’s
moral standards, making them an integral
part of our very being. It is essential
that we “Walk the Talk.”
