Ujjivan started its operations in Bangalore with a predominant focus to cater to the unbanked urban poor but over time it has substantially expanded its footprints in the semi-urban and rural space.
21% of our branches are located in under-banked districts, 17 of our 24 states have branches in RBI defined under-banked districts, 17% of our branches are located in the four low income states of Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh covered by PSIG programme of the Department for International Development, (DFID), UK and implemented by SIDBI.
Over the years, the mission has been to achieve financial inclusion of the urban, semi-urban and rural poor hence it has set shop in 87 under banked districts, which means more than 35% of its branches are present in coverage. Many of our branches are located in the largely underserved regions of Eastern, Central and Northern India. Our clientele has also expanded to embrace the rural sector, the working areas of our branches extended into the rural hinterland and the customers hailing from these areas have a largely rural base.
